How would you characterize slave culture in the US South?

Answer:

Not all slave owners were abusive as it often portrayed, but there was a lot of that in the the south. Also, it was mainly big plantations and small towns rather than industrial life and cities. Not a lot of immigrants, just Americans and slaves.
