why do we call certain time periods the stone age, the bronze age, and the iron age?​

In my opinion, in history they are three different time periods/era in which people evolved by changing the materials of their weapons or cutlery use etc. Iron,stone and bronze are materials and also this must have contributed to increase ones civilization by exchange of goods and good economy growth
