To understand the wetland structure of the South - you have to delve into the geology of the region. There are various parts of the south that have hard, rocky surfaces where water does not permeate deep down, and other parts where there is a soft, porous surface that can absorb water underground - particular where there are limestone deposits.[1] These two factors help determine where surface and subsurface waters flow.
