In about 25-33% of patient cyclothymic mood swing develop into full brown bipolar disorder. In cyclothymic disorder moods swing is a short period of mild depression and hypomania, an elevated mood. High and low mood swings never reach the severity of major depressive and the people with cyclothymic disorder have milder symptom which occurs in full brown bipolar disorder.
