so youd need to factor the quadratic first.

[tex] {x}^{2} + 5x - 6[/tex]
[tex](x + 6)(x - 1)[/tex]
now set each factor equal to zero and solve for X.

x+6=0
x=-6

x-1=0
x=1

so the roots of the quadratic are x=-6 and 1
